Everette Sands
Everette Sands, a former four-time All-Southern Conference selection at The Citadel, is in his sixth season of his second term as the Bulldogs’ running backs coach.

Sands, who spent four years coaching the backfield at Ohio University before returning to The Citadel, was an assistant under former Bulldog head coach Don Powers for the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

Following his graduation from The Citadel in 1993, Sands worked in private business for two years before serving as the head football coach at Sea Island Academy in Charleston. Former Citadel Offensive Coordinator and then-Elon Head Coach Al Seagraves hired Sands in 1996 where he served as the running backs coach for three seasons before returning to his alma mater in 1999.

Sands, a native of Conway, S.C., ranks second all-time on the Bulldogs’ rushing chart with 3,926 yards and second in scoring with 204 points on 34 touchdowns. He served as the team’s captain in 1993.

In 1992, Sands helped The Citadel to a Southern Conference championship and No. 1 final ranking by rushing for 1,449 yards and 12 touchdowns as the Bulldogs posted an overall record of 11-2. The 1,449 rushing yards marked the second highest single-season total in school history and, for his efforts, Sands was named First Team All-Southern Conference, First Team All-South Carolina and Second Team All-America.

Sands, a 2004 Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, is married to the former Yvette Newton of Hartwell, Ga. They have three children, Tre (8), Sierra (6) and Josiah (2).
