Aashon Larkins enters his fifth year on the Bulldog staff and was recently promoted to special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.
In 2009, Larkins assisted with a special teams unit that finished first in the conference in punt returns, while ending the season 10th in the FCS. The Bulldogs also finished second in the SoCon in kickoff returns and third in kickoff coverage. Larkins also coached standout receiver Andre Roberts to a No. 6 national ranking in punt returns to conclude the season.
Prior to working with special teams, Larkins assisted in the development of the secondary. He came to The Citadel from Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., where he served as the defensive back coach and academic liaison. His defensive backs were second in Division I-AA interceptions with 21 for the 2005 season.
Before Wagner, Larkins worked under former Bulldog defensive coordinator Isaac Collins as the cornerbacks coach at College of the Holy Cross for one season after working as a student assistant at Lehigh University. He also interned with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Larkins was a three-year letterman under Higgins at Lehigh, where he was a member of the three-time Patriot League Championship team and one Lambert Cup Championship. During his years at Lehigh, the Mountain Hawks were 41-8. A double major, Larkins graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and sociology in December 2003.
Larkins, a native of Hackensack, N.J., was married to the former Jacqueline Stove on June 21, 2008.
