Gunter comes from Pikeville College, where he was the offensive line and special teams coordinator in 2009. In 2008, he was the Outside Linebackers Coach at Lenoir-Rhyne after serving as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach/Tight Ends Coach with the Bears the year before.

A 2007 graduate of Lenoir Ryne, Gunter was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter at Center. He also served as team captain and was an All-Conference selection in 2006.

A native of Irmo, S.C., he is pursuing his master's degree in health, exercise and sports science in The Citadel Graduate College. He currently resides in West Ashley.
