Andy Alden enters his third season on the Bulldog coaching staff. Recently, promoted to assistant defensive line coach, Alden spent his first two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the defense. He comes to The Citadel from Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville, S.C. where he served as an assistant varsity coach responsible for the defensive secondary and the offensive line.
Before Pinewood, Alden was a secondary coach at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. for the 2005 season. That year, Shepherd had its first undefeated regular season in 50 years, winning the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, a No. 6 national ranking, and a berth in the Division II playoffs. Alden coached Division II All-American Dan Peters who, in 2005, set the school record for interceptions in a season (12).
Prior to graduating college, Alden worked as an assistant varsity lacrosse coach for Morgantown High School in Morgantown, W.Va.
Alden is a six-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and is stationed with the 350th Medical Company at the Naval Weapons Station in North Charleston.
Alden is a 2004 graduate of West Virginia University where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in history.
Alden, a native of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., was born on May 28, 1979. Alden and his wife, the former Dr. Kari-Beth Law of Bluefield, W.Va., reside in Charleston.
